LOCAL OPHTHALMOLOGIST JONATHAN M. FRANTZ, M.D.
TAKES VISION CORRECTION TO A NEW LEVEL
FORT MYERS/NAPLES - For the past 10 years the medical community and the people of Southwest Florida have recognized local ophthalmologist Jonathan Frantz, MD, FACS, as a leader in the field of Laser Vision Correction and Cataract Surgery. Dr. Frantz is pleased to announce that he has now taken Vision Correction to a new level at his practice by adding two new procedures - Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) and PRELEX (Presbyopic Lens Exchange).
"We've had a tremendous amount of success with the LASIK procedure over the past several years and it continues to be a cornerstone of our practice," explained Dr. Frantz. "With the addition of CustomVue LASIK to our practice this past June, we are able to measure and correct unique imperfections in our patients' vision 25 times more precise than any other method," said Dr. Frantz.
"However, we've had a lot of hyperopic (farsighted) patients who have not been good candidates for LASIK," said Dr. Frantz. Both of the new procedures now being offered by Dr. Frantz are for people who are farsighted.
For those patients over 40 who have had great vision all their lives and now dislike having to wear reading glasses, Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) is a non-laser procedure that can reduce their dependence on reading glasses. According to Dr. Frantz, "It's an exciting new advancement in vision correction because it uses radio frequency (RF) energy instead of a laser to treat vision problems." With the CK procedure there is no cutting, which helps minimize side effects and speed recovery. The virtually painless procedure takes about 5 minutes and can be performed in both the Fort Myers and Naples offices of Florida Eye Health.
With the PRELEX procedure, Dr. Frantz uses a multifocal implant technology similar to cataract surgery. This procedure is for those over 40 who want to have both their near and distance vision corrected. "This multifocal implant creates a full range of vision allowing many farsighted people to enjoy a better quality of life with a reduced dependence on glasses," said Dr. Frantz.
A pioneer in the field of vision correction, Dr. Frantz has been performing Laser Vision Correction since 1987 and was the original principal investigator of the FDA clinical trials that led to the initial approval of the Excimer laser. He performed the first Excimer laser procedure in the State of Florida for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Dr. Frantz has been providing vision correction at the main offices of Florida Eye Health on New Brittany Boulevard in Fort Myers since 1996. In 1999, he installed the first on-site laser for Laser Vision Correction in Naples at his office at 2100 N. Tamiami Trail at Gateway Plaza. In October 2002, Dr. Frantz became the area's first ophthalmologist to install the VISX STAR S4 WavePrint System and in June of this year, was the first surgeon to offer CustomVue LASIK.
If you are nearsighted, farsighted, have astigmatism, or simply need to wear reading glasses, and are interested in learning more about Vision Correction, Dr. Frantz will be presenting a seminar at his Fort Myers office on Tuesday, January 13 and in Naples on Thursday, January 22. Both seminars are at 6:00 pm and reservations are encouraged.
