FORT MYERS - Jonathan M. Frantz, M.D., F.A.C.S., medical director of The Center for Laser Vision Correction, Florida Eye Health, is now offering
his patients the most advanced laser vision correction with the newly released, FDA-approved, VISX STAR S3 Active TrakJ Excimer Laser System. Dr. Frantz is the first laser vision correction specialist on the west coast
of Florida to offer the new technology.Laser vision correction uses an excimer laser to correct imperfect vision, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The excimer laser emits a cool beam of
light that gently reshapes the cornea (surface of the eye) to correct vision.
The STAR S3 ActiveTrakJ System, which incorporates a unique 3-D eye-tracker, delivers improved laser vision precision. As the name
implies, ActiveTrak actively tracks the patient's eye and guides the laser. ActiveTrak moves the laser with the eye, keeping the laser and the patient's pupil precisely aligned during the quick procedure. According to
Frantz, "This feature helps make the ActiveTrak the most advanced of its kind, giving me even more confidence about the expected outcome of laser vision correction."
"We're very excited to have this
latest technology from VISX in our practice," said Frantz. "In addition to the eye-tracking system, the laser has other features that also make the procedure easier and more accurate. With the ActiveTrak's
ability to individualize laser vision correction for each patient, all these new features give us the ability to provide an even higher quality of laser vision correction."
Frantz has been honored
for two consecutive years as one of the top providers of laser vision correction in the United States by VISX, Inc. This honor places him in the top five percent of refractive surgeons nationwide. He has been
performing Laser Vision Correction for 12 years and was selected by the FDA as the original principal investigator in the clinical trials that led to the initial approval of the Excimer laser. Frantz performed almost
all of the 500 cases done locally that led to the FDA approval of the Excimer laser. He performed the first Excimer laser procedure in the State of Florida for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Frantz
has been providing laser vision correction at the main offices of Florida Eye Health in Fort Myers since 1996. The Center for Laser Vision Correction, which he added last spring, is the only Center in the area dedicated
exclusively to laser vision correction. In 1999, Dr. Frantz installed the first on-site laser for Laser Vision Correction in Naples at his office at 2100 N. Tamiami Trail at Gateway Plaza.
"Our team of
expertly-trained professionals understands the special concerns and needs of our patients who want laser vision correction," said Dr. Frantz. "We are dedicated to providing all of our patients with the finest,
most personal, and highest quality service available."
